"but i don't want to bother people..."
Ever feel that pit in your stomach before sending a proposal or raising your rates? Or do you hesitate to share your offers, worried you might be "bothering" people? π¬ Ever noticed yourself saying "oh, it's fine!" when someone says no to working with you, but inside you're eight years old again, standing on a neighbor's porch with a box of unsold wrapping paperβ¦ π
If you feel that HARD, this blog is for you!
I just released a episode of the Money Healing Club Podcast ποΈwhere my guest Lexi, a hypnotherapist unpacks the lingering effects of her childhood experiences of selling wrapping paper, popcorn, or candles door-to-door on her adult journey of entrepreneurship.
What started as Lexi sharing her blocks around selling her services as a business owner led to this beautiful "aha moment" π‘ about how those early experiences of rejection and competition shaped her adult relationship with receiving money. π°
In this episode, we explore:
- How school fundraisers became our first "sales training" (for better or worse) π΅
- The way childhood experiences create money patterns that show up in our businesses
- A beautiful technique for healing those early money memories β¨
- Why the Scholastic Book Fair π might have taught us more about shopping than reading
Here's the process Lexi recommends for identify, processing and releasing a money block:
1. Identify the block: Why am I experiencing this? What is the root cause of this block? π€
2. Be open to the answer to pop up when you're relaxed or doing something else.
3. Maintain your awareness of the present moment, and observe the memory or information from a distance. π
4. Extend big compassion for the younger version of yourself that learned the money lesson.
5. Gently teach your inner child what you know to be true now, as an adult. Example of a new belief from the episode: Selling is sacred. Selling is serving. π
6. Process the experience through journaling, working with a therapist or hypnotherapist. π
7. Consider recording yourself saying the updated script, and reply it when you are most relaxed, such as falling asleep. π΄
I'd love to hear your story: Did you sell things as a kid for school or activities? How do you think those experiences might be showing up in your business or money life now? What did they teach you about what selling is about?
Did fundraising have a positive effect on you? π
Drop a comment with your fundraising memories or better yet, leave me a voicemail! - I read every response, and your story might help another member of our community feel less alone in their money journey. π€π
With a healing hug to your inner child,
